The World of the Recessionista

By  |

In today’s slow economy, I find myself surfing the web for the best deals on dining out, vacation, shopping and even bottles of vino! I know I am not the only former fashionista on this new quest for fine items at an affordable cost. And this is the premise of my blog…surviving the recession aka the “Bush economy” and still treating myself as well as I possibly can without sacrificing some of the luxuries of life.
On this blog, I plan to share my latest discoveries about fashion, going out and the new recessionista vacation ” the stay-cation”. Feel free to blog with me and share your tips. Its a brave new world and we all have to help each other ride out these tough times.
Towards that end, here are this week’s tips for the savings.
Favorite Recessionista Dining in Los Angeles.
I have 2 new fabulous discoveries:
    1. The Marmelade Cafe El, Segundo California Early Bird Dinner. I so love this! Its $14.95 for a 3 course dinner from 4 pm to 6 pm, Monday thru Friday. And, they have now allowed dinners to choose a glass of house wine OR a desert for course numero 3. This is recession dining at its finest, dinner + glass of vino for under $15.00. And the food is good, good, good. Thank you Marmelade for getting into the spirit of the recession!

  • Grand Lux Cafe, Beverly Center offers lunch until 5:00 pm. This is the place to go for recession dinning in Beverly Hills after you are exhausted from shopping for bargains over at H &M. 🙂 Check out the menu and prices, plenty of food for less.

Favorite Recessionista shopping tips for this week:
Celia Birtwell for Express Fashion.
Ok, I love Celia’s prints. They are VERY special. And I realize they are a little pricier than most recesssionistas would like at the moment.
A blouse runs for approx $80.00 US. However, these are classic prints in the old Ossie Clark styles. I think of it as a wardrobe investment.
And for savings, I signed up to receive e-mail from Express and received a code for 15% off. Excellent savings for a classic item. Old Ceila prints on Ossie Clark fashions retail for hundreds, even thousands on eBay and at Vintage shows. So really, the Express line is rich in savings.
Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale
I seriously have to give it up to Nordie’s for their BIG Anniversary sale.
I had not been the store for a while because of my need to SAVE $$ and curtail shopping. However, the selection of discounted, quality goods is now terrific. I got a super DKNY blouse for a steal. Check out the sale online or at the stores. Its fabu!
Anthropologie
One of my favorite high-end retailers is having a fantastic sale with some items marked down to $19.99.
I love it. I mean, that is better than a discount store priced designer item. Thank you Anthro!
Those are my tips for this week. Please post your tips if you feel like sharing!
