In the build-up to Fashion’s Night Out, it was recently announced that Vogue Creative Director, and former model, Grace Coddington  has teamed up with French luxury brand Balenciaga for a collection of accessories….wait for it, inspired by her cat Pumpkin! It’s so rich with humor, just the idea of the titian haired Grace sketching her designs while the car purrs.  The bright orange looks more like a Halloween bag or even the orange Hermes sleeper bag.  But, I have to admit bag is cute.  Of course  Balenciaga is a luxury item, so it is not cheap. The Pumpkin collection includes the bag and two separate scarves. All of the pieces in the collection will feature Coddington’s drawings of her petit chat Pumpkin in vintage Balenciaga looks from the past decade. The line launches on  Fashion’s Night Out in New York. Here’s a bit more information from the official press release:

Central to the new accessories line is the “Pumpkin Papier” tote bag ($1,000). Produced in either ecru or bright pumpkin canvas with black calfskin trim, the bag is decorated with a playful print of Pumpkin the Cat wearing Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquière.

Two printed “Pumpkin” scarves round out the collection, one in a classic silk twill and one in fringed wool and silk ($395 and $495, respectively).”

What do you think readers? Are you jonesing to get this limited edition Pumpkin collection, or is it a little too much? It’s certainly cheaper than other Balenciaga products, but still not quite in The Recessionista space. I am glad to see Grace Coddington stepping out and doing some designing.  I think she has great taste and I adored her simple dedication and work ethic in The September Issue.  Maybe she’ll do something a little less pricey in the future so we can all enjoy it.
