Unholy Fashion Alliance: Lady Gaga and Giorgio Armani

If you could wear/afford Giorgio Armani would you want to look like a you could be working the streets of Santa Monica Boulevard at say midnight? That’s the question, I ask myself this morning as I sip some coffee and look at the sketches Armani designed for Lady Gaga’s upcoming tour.  Witness the sketch above. This is one of the looks that Armani has designed for Lady Gaga.   Really? Seriously?  Seems the legendary designer has created a number of costumes for the artist’s Born This Way Ball tour, which kicks off in Seoul on April 27th.  We are talking about a wardrobe made of latex, metal, studs, PV (ie. Pleather) for maximum shock value.

Above is a sketch of the long tunic with “leg-o-mutton sleeves” made of skin-toned latex. According to the Armani press folks, “ Luminous PVC elements create flashes of synthetic light inside the garment.  The same avant garde lighting is featured on the triangle decorating the chest, on the headpiece, and on the platform of the matching latex ankle boots.”  I have no words for this….oh wait yes I do! Wasteful. Such a sad use of Mr. Armani’s talents.   I don’t care how much this costs, it’s dreadful and not worth going Gaga over.
