Tory Burch Recommends a $3,250 Handbag for a Working Mother of Two

This little tidbit from a fashion magazine came across The Recessionista’s Radar system yesterday via Twitter in a message sent by Corrinrenee. Here’s the scenario.  Tory Burch has a new fashion advice column in In-Style magazine. A working mother of two wrote to the magazine’s “Ask the Designer” column to seek advice from Tory Burch. Sounds reasonable so far, right?  The working mother asked Tory what bag she would suggest for her to carry that would compliment a variety of outfits, but be suitable for a 35 year mother of two.  Guess what Tory replied? She recommended a $3,250 USD Celine bag as the perfect fashion solution.  You have got to be kidding me!! I have lots of friends with small children and there is not one of them who would make a 3,250 luxury bag their “go to” bag for running errands and toting around small children.  Advice like this, with a price tag out of reach for the majority of consumers, is the reason I started The Recessionista.  If you’re a working mother looking for a great tote, check out website Zappos for fashionable and affordable options.

There so many other options that might have been suitable for this reader, I marvel at the choice that was recommended by the designer. Next thing you know, Tory will recommend a Chanel bag for a diaper bag.  There are totes by Michael Kors, Nine West, Big Buddha, Le Sportsac and Steve Madden to name just a few that are stylish and affordable.  Dear working mother of two, I don’t have your email to write to you, so I am posting this instead. You don’t need a $3,250 handbag to find something that goes with every outfit and is suitable for your age.
