This and That: Lipstick for Less, Norma Kamali Made in America

By  |

Robert Kennedy said, “There are those who look at things the way they are, and ask why… I dream of things that never were, and ask why not?” Over here at The Recessionista, “There are those who think that a lipstick is $20.00….but I ask why, when I can buy it for only $5.00?”

Yes, I am still chortling over the editor of Vogue responding to the David Letterman that for $20.00, you could buy lipstick. But this gives me the opportunity to highlight a nice special that the beauty for less website Beautyticket.com is running. The lip gloss special is just one of many deals this cool little site offers. Overall, most premium brands are sold for far less than their retail prices. If you’re looking for some great deals, this might just be the ticket.

But there are bigger things to talk about today than the price of lipstick. I want to applaud Norma Kamali for making her designs in the US with American labor. I’m sure this adds extra cost to her production, but it’s really a grand gesture in these tough times when off-shoring is the norm to cut costs. Made in the USA is something that I support and wish more American companies were willing to do in this recession. Props to Ms. Kamali! NK will be participating in the Sept. 10 Fashion’s Night Out festivities. Here are some of the specials she’ll be offering at her NY store.

The Norma Kamali boutique in NYC on 56th street between 5th and 6th ave. (open from 10:00 am to 11:00 pm) will offer the following exclusive offers on Fashion’s Night Out:

  • Complimentary face and body massages for all fashion’s night out visitors
  • Facebook fans receive 10% their purchase of the Norma Kamali made in theUSAcollection
  • Wellness teas and olive oil popcorn will be served in the Norma Kamali wellness café ( I can personally vouch for the teas and olive oils. They are amazing!)
  • Wellness organic all natural homeopathic remedies are given with purchases
  • Selected Wal-Mart Norma Kamali styles will be available $20 and under
  • Clients may shop from the sample sale section all $100 and under from the Norma Kamali collection
  • See the exclusive collection available only at eBay

These are great deals. I’m hoping to made it to NYC for the night out and Fashion Week. I would love to see the fashions, plus get the deals and a free massage 🙂 Truly The Recessionista’s dream is to experience the new wave of fashion.

There are those who look at fashion the way it is and think the prices must stay high and haute while I dream of lower priced designs and free giveaways and ask why not?

Stay tuned for more Fashion’s Night Out specials and listings until the big event.
