Target’s Electronics Trade-in Program: Some Good Deals

By  |

Yesterday I was at my local Target store running an errand, when I decided to bop over to the Electronics section of the store and see what was new in mobile technology. Well, you might ask, what is a die hard fashionista like myself doing shopping for technology instead of clothes? The truth is in my world of blogging, tweeting and shopping, technology and fashion have become tightly entwined.  Mobile technology is now part of my savings kit.  I check prices online, and compare deals while shopping.  I also Tweet with others about deals and coupons while in store.

So if you’re like me, and you rely on mobile technology , you’ll want to check out Target’s electronics trade-in program coupled with their deals on Smartphones, iPhone and Samsung Devices.  I haven’t had a new Blackberry since 2007, so I was thrilled to see  Target offering a new Blackberry Curve 8250 for just $29.99 through AT&T wireless.  I qualified for the deal since my contract had expired and it was time to renew.  Renewing for another 2 years gave me the new phone/messaging device for under $30.00.  And even better, I traded in my 2007 Blackberry Curve 8220 and received a gift card worth $44.00  for other  Target electronic purchases.  So basically, I covered the costs on the new phone (but not the sales tax!) with my trade-in.  If you’re a fashionista, or just a savvy shopper, I recommend you check out the Target Trade-in Program.

According to Target, “Target Mobile offers a convenient in-store and online cellular shopping experience. Target Electronics Trade-In will allow guests to receive credit towards any Target purchase by turning in their new or used video games, mobile phones and iPods. ”  The program has been available in California since the end of August.  It’s expected to be available in over 850 Targets by 2011.  Click here for the details.

The only downside to the program is the time I spent in line waiting at Target to get my new phone configured with my existing cellular account…that took 45 minutes.  It took 45 minutes for the customer ahead of me to get their phone too.  You’ll hear the subliminal Jeopardy tick-tock clock ticking as you stand in line waiting.  Evidently the new computer system Target is using is very temperamental and and not user friendly.  Doing the trade-in was much quicker and took only 5 minutes. So if you need a new cell phone, and you got some time and considerable patience, check the Target program.  Just bring some coffee while you wait, because it won’t be a quick purchase! 🙂 Don’t go when you are in a hurry, or have scheduled appointments.

For more Target trade-in savings, check out their program with Nextworth.  You can bring in CDs, DVDs, old cameras and other gadgets and get a Target gift card.  Use the gift cards for the next Target Designer or some Temple St. Clair.   The program benefits shoppers and the environment.  I’m going to start rounding up some old gadgets, to trade them in for a gift card for a Target Mulberry bag.  That’s the way we do it! Money for nothing and your bags for free.
