Here’s some big news that you might not have heard.  Renowned women’s fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi is creating a limited edition “Malibu Collection” inspired by the all-new 2013 Chevrolet Malibu midsize sedan.  Even better news, manufacturing of the Chevy Malibu employs American workers at General Motors’ Fairfax, Kansas and Detroit-Hamtramck facilities.  A reasonably priced car that inspires a reasonably priced fashion collection, how good is that? Some benefits of the Chevy Malibu include:  smart technology, impressive styling, a luxurious interior and confident handling. With Mizrahi at the helm, the fashion collection is sure to be in a similar vein, delivering value for price.

“The new Chevy Malibu has great style and smart design,” says designer Mizrahi. “With its clean lines, crisp shape, and beautiful ice-blue ambient lighting, the Malibu grabs your attention without being over the top. The Malibu says ‘I’m smart and stylish, notes Mr. Mizrahi. “I love nice things and will indulge for the right thing, but it’s important that I’m deliberate about my purchases.’ I think a lot of women are like that. They want that expensive handbag, but will hold off from eating out every night to save for it. They want to be fashionable, but also savvy about what they buy.” I think maybe Isaac has been reading The Recessionista’s Mantra.  We’re all about holding out for the best deals.

Although no pricing has yet been announced, I expect the clothing to be well priced. That’s because the fashions won’t be sold at a boutique or retail store, so there is no store overhead.  The Malibu collection  will be revealed on Oct. 16th and sold in limited quantities exclusively on deal site LivingSocial’s Shop. This is LivingSocial’s first venture into selling a new fashion collection, so this may set a new precedent in the fashion world.

Living in Los Angeles. one of my first discoveries was the Malibu area. I fell in love with the easy casual beach chic and the Malibu Country Mart with its fantastic shopping. To show you what I think of Malibu Style,  I created a Pinterest board.  My board is full of my favorite  California Malibu chic pieces like maxi dresses, big sunglasses, tote bags and flip flops.  I had to include my favorite fashionable Malibu resident on the board, actress Ali MacGraw.  Ali lived in Malibu for  many years as Mrs. Steve McQueen. She is my Malibu style icon, with her unique look of crochet hats, choker necklaces, and simple dresses.  I wonder if Isaac Mizrahi’s Malibu Collection will have any styles reminiscent of Ali? I know that he was inspired by looks from four different women, but a big part of Malibu is movie stars, so he may have had a look at some of the style’s worn by Malibu’s fashionable stars.  You can follow Mizrahi’s design journey on  www.chevymalibustyle.com and on Chevrolet’s Malibu Style Facebook page. If you visit the Malibu Style Facebook page, be sure to enter the giveaway for a chance to win $5,000 for a shopping spree.   I don’t know about you, but I think there has been a hole at Target in Women’s apparel since Isaac Mizrahi left them.  It’s good to see him back creating accessible fashions for women. Stay up to date on the collection, and its unveiling by following @Chevrolet on Twitter and hashtag #MalibuStyle. I’ll be reviewing the collection when it goes on sale.
