The Recessionista’s weekly review offers a little of the fashion news of the world in a quick summary form, just like the French magazine ” The Little Echo of the World” did in the 1920s. Or, at least, that is the goal 🙂  This week, there are a couple fashion stories on my radar as well as some upcoming deals that I want to make you aware of.  Here we go!

Fashion’s Night Out 2012 has a confirmed date of September 6th according to NY Magazine. I’m glad to see the annual fashion fest continue.  There were rumors that Vogue was tired of organizing it and that it was doing much to stimulate fashion sales.  Whether it stimulates the economy or not, I love FNO. I had so much fun last year at FNO 90210 in Beverly Hills before heading out to New York Fashion Week. It’s the perfect girls night out.

Versace for H&M Resort Collection Sold Out:  Not really a surprise, the H&M Versace resort collection sold out on it’s launch date of Jan. 19th. I didn’t hear that the website crashed, so that’s a retail win for H&M.  Some of the collection can be found on eBay if any of you are interested in searching.

Siriano Bridal Collection. Christian Siriano has announced via Twitter that he will design a bridal collection for Nordstroms.  “Excited to announce we are doing an exclusive bridal collection for Nordstrom,” he tweeted. “Here’s the very first one, more to come (see picture above)!” The dresses look like his fluffy red carpet creations with lots of ruffles. I’m still smarting from ordering from Christian’s Spiegel line, so I’ll proceed with caution on this one.

Rent the Runway’s (RTR) Semi Annual Clearance Sale starts online Monday, Jan 23rd.  Save the date if you’re looking for a deal on a special dress for Valentines Day or another occasion. I’m told the dresses have been gently worn and are in good condition for sale. Look for designers like Milly, Kenneth Jay Lane, Nicole Miller, Lela Rose, Badgley Mischka, Halston Heritage, Missoni, Moschino, Preen, Proenza Schouler, Robert Rodriguez and Tibi, among others. Prices will be 50-85% off retail price. If you like Christian Siriano, look for some of his dresses to be included in the sale. You will need to join RTR to shop the sale, so click here to use my invite to join and shop.

New Maxi Dresses from Vera Wang at Kohl’s.  I hadn’t checked out Simply Vera at Kohl’s in a while when I started looking at lavender dresses after loving Octavia Spencer’s Tadashi Shoji gown at last week’s Golden Globes. While looking for something like Octavia’s gown, I came across some new Simply Vera dresses that I like.  The simply Vera Lavender Maxi dress (pictured above) is now on sale for $42.00 reduced from $72.00 is really elegant looking. Not to mention the price is right.  The dress is polyester rather than chiffon, and it doesn’t have all the ruching that the Shoji gown does, but it has the right kind of flowing elegance and lovely lavender that even Dame Elizabeth Taylor might have liked.  There is also a stunning lavender top in the collection for $24.00. For a good looking black evening dress, take a look at the Simply Vera Vera Wang Pleated Chiffon Trim Maxi Dress on sale for $49.00. Use Kohl’s coupons online or in the Sunday paper and you will save up to 30% off these dresses.

Finally, I am hosting two Facebook giveaways for my readers, Twitter followers and Facebook friends to help you get ready for Valentine’s Day in style.  One giveaway is for a $25.00 gift certificate at Cheryl’s cookies and the second is for a $250.00 gift certificate at Sassoon Salon in South Coast Plaza (best for a Los Angeles or OC reader to win.)   Be sure to enter and look for additional Valentine’s Giveaways coming up!
