Dame Helen Mirren has been announced as the new face of L’Oreal beauty products. It’s a stunning move for a global brand to chose an older woman in today’s youth obsessed culture to be the face of their brand. In an era when so many women are obsessed with aging and using fillers and botox, it’s so refreshing to see the natural looking Dame Helen looking gorgeous and natural in the photos L’Oreal has released. I’ve reviewed L’Oreal products here on The Recessionista and I think their skincare products are affordable and effective. Their labs have been innovative in developing Retinol products for anti-aging. Dame Helen is a great choice for any ad campaign, she’s a great role model, someone who looks good, but isn’t altering her appearance dramatically as she ages. Continue reading
The maker of the world’s best known trench coat, Burberry, will be honored with the Rodeo Drive Walk of Style® Award on November 19, 2014 in Beverly Hills. The award is the Los Angeles’ equivalent of an Oscar for fashion. The Rodeo Drive Walk of Style celebrates style legends for contributions to the worlds of fashion and entertainment. Burberry will be the twenty-second honoree. The British luxury brand deserves this honor, they weathered the great recession, maintained their quality (while so many others have not) and they continue to produce beautiful, classic clothes. For the next 3 days, Last Call is offering some great deals to get you ready for Fall. From 10/21/14 to 10/23/14 you can save 40% off one regular priced item. This is the place to get designers we love like Burberry, DVF, Milly, VINCE, Nicole Miller, Tadashi Shoji, Catherine Malandrino, Taryn Rose and Robbi & Nikki. I’ve even found Valentino and Roland Mouret at Last Call. It’s truly Fab-u-less! Bring the picture above (print it out as a coupon) into the store or shop online to get the savings. In Los Angeles, Last Call has a great brick & mortar store at the The Outlets at Orange.
I’ve been home sick this week, doing stuff I don’t normally do, like watching ABC’s talk show The View. To my amazement, moderator Whoopi Goldberg announced yesterday, in best Bob Barker “The Price is Right” banter that “The View” is now going to offer shopping. And not just for women’s fashions, but for electronics and home goods. Ms. Goldberg rattled off an extensive list of marketing rot about exactly the items this boring show will now be putting up for sale. Rosie O’Donnell followed up by asking what every viewer was probably thinking–is this The View or the Home Shopping Network? Here’s what Rosie said. Continue reading
