Yesterday my favorite real-life Recessionista, Michelle Obama was spotted wearing her $275.00 Tracy Reese dress for the second time.  Oh my, the First Lady wears clothes more than once.  Stop press! 🙂  Definitely newsworthy.:)  The other Mrs. O, Jackie Kennedy Onassis tried to never do that.   Even further from the style habits of the first Mrs. O, the new age Mrs. O bought the dress off the rack.  Yes, the dress is Tracy Reese’s Indigo Placement Floral Shirred Frock a beautiful blend of rayon and spandex that any one of us can order online at TracyReese.com.   The evolution of First Lady style is complete.

I first sighted this dress on my favorite news blog, The Huffington Post.  Michelle Obama was first photographed wearing it while stepping off the plane at the Benito Juarez International Airport in Mexico on April 15. Yesterday, she wore this dress again for a picnic on the White House lawn.  I’m sure she was thinking it would be casually cool in the summer heat, and comfortable.  I like the construction of the dress.  The shirred elastic waist and full skirt will be flattering on many women because it emphasizes the waist, the smallest point on any women, and flows gently over the hips.  Mrs. Obama has been wearing Tracy Reese since meeting her at a fundraiser in 2008.  Remember the sleeveless lace dress Michelle wore on the cover of People magazine last year? That was a $395.00 Tracy Reese.

Pictured: I like the back of the dress as well as the front, the lines are beautiful.

If you haven’t heard of designer Tracy Reese, she has two lines of clothing.  Her lower-priced line Plenty features $150 dresses,
while her runway looks are not much more expensive” according to the  NY Daily News.  You can find Tracy Reese for less online at Gilt Groupe and Hautelook every now and then.  I have sighted Plenty on sale in store at Anthropologie and at Loehmann’s.   And don’t forget to watch for sales on TracyReese.com

Thanks to Mrs. Obama for reminding us again that style is not about price tag or haute couture.  Nothing wrong with a little “ready to wear” even on state visits and the White House lawn.  After all a $275.00 price tag is still plenty to pay for a dress, right? 🙂
