Mobile Phone and Tablet Shopping: Study Reveals Women shop from the train, the toilet and bed!

By  |
Shopping site Very.co.uk has done another research study on how women are shopping from their mobile and tablet /iPad devices, even in some unusual places.  Apparently, there are no boundaries to shopping when it comes to mobile devices. The company interviewed 1,000 women with 37 percent admitting to shopping while in bed and another 37 percent confessing to making purchases online when they should be working. Thirty-three percent of those surveyed shop online during their work commute, while 18% said they had made purchases while using the toilet and a shocking 3% have even indulged in some online shopping from a friend’s wedding!  Personally I draw the line at shopping from the toilet, but I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve been in public restrooms and heard the feverish tapping of texting, tweeting and talk of shopping from other bathroom stalls. It’s literally a new low in the world of shopping, but people are addicted to their mobile devices, and the boundaries of when to stop are becoming blurred to say the least.
It’s not surprising that the study also shows that many women as shopping via social media channels. According to the study over a quarter of women aged under 25 admitted that they had used social media such as Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest to get tips from social media friends or real life friends before hitting the buy button.  “The rise of smartphones and tablet computers means that there are no longer boundaries to shopping and women are never far from being able to get their fashion fix,” Very.co.uk style director Rebecca Elderfield told The Daily Mail on August 2.  Is this a good thing readers?  I think not.  At some point, we do need to put those phones and electronic devices down, but they sure do help to pass the time when things get dull.  Even if it’s a friend’s wedding!
