Intolerance: Karl Lagerfeld Faces Lawsuit for Dissing Curvy Women

By  |

Designer Karl Lagerfeld has no tolerance for those who are not a sample size and he continues to voice his opinions strongly, and may I say, stupidly? Someone at the House of Chanel needs to muzzle this guy and quick?  First he dissed beloved singer Adele, and now he dismisses curvy women as not fashionable for the catwalk.  The Daily Mail reports that the 80 year old designer said  ‘nobody wants to see curvy women on the runway’.  Clearly, Mr. Lagerfeld missed the first plus size runway show at New York Fashion Week this past September.   Now a French activist group is taking legal action against Lagerfeld for his biting opinions. The French group ‘Belle, Ronde, Sexy et je m’assume’ (Beautiful, Rounded, Sexy and fine with it)[ such a great name!] has bough a defamation lawsuit against Lagerfeld for his remarks.  ‘These insults by celebrities must stop. We’re sick of it, ” said the group’s spokesperson Betty Aubriere.  ‘There are a lot of young girls who don’t feel comfortable in their skin, and for them to hear comments like that is terrible for them.’

With the Women’s Plus size fashion market the largest growing segment in the fashion industry and Lane Bryant recently announcing their first designer collection, it seems that Mr. Lagerfeld is on a public relations suicide mission.   And although Mr. Lagerfeld was once famously overweight himself,  it seems that he has no tolerance  for those who are not a sample size.    I applaud the activist group for calling Lagerfeld on his inflammatory statements and wish them luck.   I think Lagerfeld needs a good smack down, don’t you?  This is a guy who basically stole Johnny Cash’s man in black look and calls himself fashionable.  Seriously Karl, get an attitude adjustment.
