I Don’t Eat Buffalo Wings, Drink Beer or Watch Football Superbowl Survival Tips

By  |

Ugh, it’s Super Bowl Sunday, the annual festival of chicken wings , beer and dip.  I think the Steelers and Green Bay Packers are playing but don’t quote me. Sorry dah-lings, there’s no fashion at the shopping bowl, unless Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas rocks something fabulous at the half time show. Everyone who knows me, knows I don’t really care about watching the Superbowl. Am I alone in this? I think not. The whole experience is just not for me. I don’t care for the chips, dips, chicken wings, etc. festivities.  Super Bowl Sunday is the day I use to research little known fashion facts, like, what really was inside of Janis Joplin’s purse?  It’s also the day I like to listen to The Essential Janis Joplin, because I am confident if Janis were here today, she would NOT be watching or listening to the Super Bowl.

So if you are one of the few, the proud, the non-football fan fashionistas, you may be looking for some better ways to spend your Sunday.  I have been known to indulge in a little shopping on Super Bowl Sunday, even if I am at a Superbowl party, I sneak onto the Internet to online shop.  Even though I have a party to attend, I will be sneaking peaks at my crackberry and iPod Touch whenever I can for game relief. Here are a few suggestions:

  • Gilt Groupe has some great sales Valentine’s gifts for help bargainistas looking to stay fashionable on a budget or give gifts to best friends or loved ones.  Click here to use my  invite to join and check out the deals.
  • For more deals, check out all the shopping clubs’ sales under our Top Picks on the right side of the blog page. RueLaLa is having a great last chance designer “splurge sale” today.
  • Take a look at the sales at website: ShopExcessBaggage.com. I wrote about this site last year for featuring up to 85% off select designer brands. They really have some amazing deals. You might want to take a look for a special Valentine’s day outfit, or just a  good jacket for winter wear. The online store features deals on brands like Custo Barcelona, C&C California, Joe’s Jeans, LNA, Michael Stars, Monrow and my favorite One Grey Day.  Use code “Recessionista” and save 20% off your order until Feb 28th, 2011.
  • Fellow blogger @Mommysavers recommends checking out the Michael Kors sale on 6pm.com.  I checked it out, and they are offering 70% off on Michael Kors today, which is a pretty great deal.  There’s even a short, vintage looking faux leopard coat that looks like a fun winter fashion find.
  • If you’re in Los Angeles, take a trip to Culver City (Washington Boulevard at Helms) and check out the fabuless finds at the Last Chance Designer outlet.  I’ll be writing more about this store soon.  They have great deals on high-end designers.

What about you readers? Are you going to watch the game? Or will you watch with an air of distraction, while sneaking peaks at your handheld/device/mobile phone? 🙂
