Giving Tuesday: Use your Social Media Klout to Give Back

By  |

Giving Tuesday allows Social Media Users to Give Back

Today is Giving Tuesday. If you are on Twitter, you know that #GivingTuesday is a trending topic today. So what’s all the buzz about?  Giving Tuesday is an opportunity to donate to those less fortunate who maybe didn’t have  a Thanksgiving dinner,  a sale to shop or the need to clip a coupon because they have no cash to shop with.   If you are a social media user, today is a great day to exercise your social klout by going on Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest to help others.  Here are some ways you can get social today to help the needy.

Feed the Hungry by Posting to the Cisco Facebook Page: Tell Cisco on Facebook how you’re giving for #GivingTuesday. For each comment/post Cisco receives, it will donate four meals toward the World Food Programme.

Tweet to @Aldo_Shoes: Tweet what you’re giving to your community to celebrate #GivingTuesday. Each tweet @aldo_shoes with the hashtag #GivingTuesday will be matched with a $5 donation.  Here’s my Tweet if you need some ideas. “@aldo_shoes Giving canned goods for the homeless/needy #GivingTuesday

If you live in New York City, look for donation boxes at Aldo Shoe stores to help you give.

Retweet the Honest Company:  If you retweet The Honest Company’s (@Honest) #GivingTuesday tweets  the company will donate a package of diapers toward its non-profit partner Baby2Baby. This non-profit works to bring essential supplies, including diapers, to families in need.

Repin Sony Electronics on Pinterest: Use the Power of the pin for good! For every repin Sony Electronics receives on Pinterest between #GivingTuesday and the end of the year (2012) , Sony Electronics will donate $1 to the Michael Phelps Foundation toward the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.  Big props to Sony for such generous giving.  The electronics company will give up to $25,000 as part of its Love to Give program. So readers, take a look at their Boards and give them a repin to help give.

Clean Your Closet: Get rid of those old clothes you no longer wear.  I know all my readers have clothes in their closets that aren’t being worn.  Pack a bag and head to Goodwill, Salvation Army or your  local women’s shelter to give them away today on #GivingTuesday.   It’s a tax deduction for you that helps others.
