Black Friday

Holiday Shopping: From Turkey Coma to the Mall!

By  |

So, after an incredibly enjoyable Thanksgiving feast and the obligatory “turkey coma”, I’m back here at the computer to getting ready for tomorrow’s early am shopping call. My sister-in-law and I have agreed that we are going out to Toys R Us and a couple of the big box retailers for kid’s Christmas gifts. Our misson is strictly toys, including the quest for the bike, Ninetendo deals and the Wii. That’s it. I have been played by two sweet little kids and there is nothing I can do about it. Armed with high-dose coffee, I will be on the way to the mall at 4:30 am. I can’t do the a full day of shopping. My goal is to go from 5 am to 7 am and then come back home with the goods, eat breakfast and sleep. Team Recessionista is getting a break this year as the head Recessionista, my 79 year old mother, is not joining our Black Friday excursion. We are heaving a sigh of relief, because no one does Black Friday like Mom. Last year she shopped from 4:30 am to 5:00 pm without a break. My sister-in-law and I both begged to go home, but she was relentless. Mom got every bargain on her list. And she managed to get the Christmas tree she wanted at JC Penney at the sale price. She just had to go to 3 or 4 JC Penneys until she found the tree. And that didn’t bother her at all, she wanted the tree advertised in the flyer. Mom survived the great depression and there is no way she is going to pay more for something if she does not have to. She wears us all out when she hits the mall in her special Reebok’s and track suit. Tomorrow her mission is to work the cyber toy angle from home, while we are at the mall. This is great news, since there is no way any of us can keep up with her at the mall.

So, I hope tomorrow is worthwhile and that our efforts will be rewarded.

Meanwhile, for those of you who are not willing the brave the crowds, here are a few coupon specials that I am passing on for tomorrow. There are more coupons and deals posted on the right of the post, so check those too.
