Macy’s is going after some great designers for there Impulse line.  We’ve already seen Matthew Williamson, Karl Lagerfeld and Kinder Aggugini hanging on the Macy’s racks.  And now, Macy’s has announced that Doo-Ri Chung of FLOTUS will be their first designer for 2012. Ironically, Doo-Ri is the first female designer to be signed by Macy’s for Impulse.  Some of you may remember Doo-Ri from the GAP white shirt project a few years back. I still have some of those shirts–they were terrific. My spies tell me that the collection will include art inspired prints, jersey pieces mixed with leather, beautifully detailed knitwear and Doo-Ri’s iconic draping. Pricing will be on average from $39-$159.  Look for both short dresses and maxi dresses, as well as a trench coat.

Look for Doo-Ri for Macy’s Impulse at 225 stores and online at Macys.com on Feb. 15, 2012. I hope that customers won’t make the faces from the sketches (see above) when they try on the collection. 🙂  Like the other Macy’s designers before her, Doo-Ri notes that this collection will bring her products to new customers. “The customer is very different from whom we’ve catered to before, but I really didn’t have to adapt. Macy’s wanted to keep the design level high. I didn’t feel the challenge was very different,” Chung told WWD.
