Lane Bryant has released the lookbook from their upcoming Lela Rose for Lane Bryant collection and the dresses are gorgeous. There are plenty of Lela Rose’s definitive prints and feminine touches in this plus-sized (I hate that term, don’t you?) collection. Based on the images I’ve seen, this is collection is a going to be a hit. I wish it would be sold in all sizes so that everyone could enjoy it. The limited-edition line collection for the special-sized retailer is set to hit stores Summer 2015, and will be sold under the Lela Rose Exclusively for Lane Bryant label. Continue reading

Today designer NET-A-PORTER website has announced further reductions on their clearance sale. Markdowns are now up to 70% off and new items have been added to the sale. Warning, things are still pricey, but there are some top designers on offer and perhaps the chance to find a great Christmas gift. Here’s to hoping the site stays up , after failing during the Pre-Thanksgiving sale. Look for savings on accessories, apparel, handbags and shoes.
Today was the last day for items shipped by regular USPS ground shipping guaranteed to reach recipients by Christmas. That makes sense if you are an early bird who has all their shopping done and got to the post office early to get things in the mail. But not all of us are ahead of the game. I know I am not. If you don’t have your shopping and mailing done, here’s a list you can reference for shopping and from some of our favorite retailers. For each retailer, we’ve got the cut-off date listed for getting your gift shipped in time for Christmas. This list is courtesy of BuyVia.com so thanks BuyVia for doing the homework for us!
Like Princess Diana before here, Kate Middleton now the Duchess of Cambridge is the perfect ambassador for British fashion. Last week in New York, she looked comfortable and chic in Mulberry’s Double Breasted Coat of Cerise Wool Silk Double Crepe which retails for £1,500 or over $3,000 US. Since Princess Katherine was photographed in the stunning hot pink coat, I’ve had a few emails from readers wondering how to get the look for less. Here’s The Recessionista’s splurge or save take on similar hot pink winter coats. We found a range of similar styles for considerably less than the pricey and now sold-out Mulberry coat that Kate wore. Continue reading

For the Holidays M.A.C Cosmetics has launched a new collection of festive make-up called the Heirloom collection. The advertising is very Marie Antoinette meets the millenium. M.A.C says the new Heirloom Collection puts a classic cameo in a contemporary, glittering light, mixing the irreverent with tradition. Recently, I received an inside look at the Heirloom products and color palette at a press preview for the collection. The collection features beautiful colors and gorgeous packaging with Cameos adorning each makeup container. At a recent press preview to launch the collection I had the chance to talk with M.A.C. cosmetics senior artist Cynthia Rivas and get the backstory behind the collection.

I used to enjoy Black Friday. The thrill of the hunt. The promise of the deal. In the early days of The Recessionista, I got up at the crack of dawn to shop Black Friday doorbusters and specials with the enthusiasm of a concert goer. Now, I’d rather do my shopping online. No pushing and shoving, no bad behavior. No waiting in line in the cold. It’s all about the Internet now for Black Friday. While some people still enjoy the in-store experience, a new survey shows that most of us would rather shop from home. Continue reading
They’re back. One of of favorite discount stores has returned. Yes, Loehmann’s is back in the retail game with a website offering deals on fashionable apparel, shoes and handbags. I was sad to see Loehmann’s close it’s brick and mortar stores last year and spoke to the New York Times about the closure as an end of a shopping era. Now the retailer is back and promising to stay. This is good news for the holidays as the Loehmann’s website is offering some well priced gifts. Continue reading
