FabFitFun has released its new spring box of beauty and fitness items. I’ve received several surprise “boxes” in the last 6 months from various brands. Some of them have just been downright ridiculous offering castaway items that you feel like a brand just wanted to get rid of to save on storage space costs or donate to get a tax write off on as a business loss. Those are the ones I don’t write about. I’ve seen it all in these “boxes” from cupcake mix to a necklace I wore exactly one time that fell apart. Although the FabFitFun Box is always a surprise every season, it’s been my experience that if you are looking for a easy way to get some great beauty products and products that will help you improve your fitness and lifestyle, then these boxes are a good deal. As a busy working women who has lost 35 pounds in the last year, these boxes are helpful. I like the fitness DVDs, the discounts on groceries and products plus the cute little beauty items like brushes and the coasters. Those little items make me feel pampered and not deprived. With Fab Fit Fun, four times a year subscribers receive a box with over $200 worth of full-size fashion, beauty and fitness products. Spoiler Alert: Read on to find out exactly what’s inside this box and why I think is full of great value.

If you have the patience to keep checking the website, it’s a good time to get the fashion deals on top designers before anything happens to this site.
This week I was honored to attend the ELLE Magazine Women in Music Event presented by sponsor eBay in Hollywood. It was such a special event featuring performances by Alanis Morissette, Banks and Tinashe. Besides the unforgettable music, the event was a virtual who’s who of female celebs from both acting and music. In the audience with us were Pink, Kate Beckinsale, Victoria Justice, Debby Ryan, Bella Thorne and Keke Palmer. And those were just the celebrities I saw at this small and very elite private concert. The event was the 6th annual ELLE Women in Music event, and if you buy ELLE Magazine this month, you’ll notice Taylor Swift on the cover promoting women in rock, in a gorgeous metallic jumpsuit. The event included a piece of memorabilia from each artist: a signed guitar from Alanis, a set of handwritten lyrics from Banks and a signed headset from Tinashe. The pieces are now up for Auction via eBay until May 30, 2015 with profits from the sales slated to go to the GRAMMY Museum here in Los Angeles. Continue reading
We’re ready for the long Memorial Day Weekend 2015. What’s on our list of to-dos? Well, of course a little BBQ and a little shopping. Some of the Memorial Days sales this weekend offer great savings. Others are just well, on-events, sale promotions with little or no real value, because the stuff the retailers are selling is just plain junk. As time goes on, I’m getting more and more selective about the sales I want to spend time at or even look at. For example, it’s been ages since I saw great value at Marshall’s, TJ Maxx, Ross or most outlet stores. Most things there look like merchandise that designers license their names to, that have little or no resemblance to the designer’s main line. For value on designer fashions, I prefer sales at Barney’s Warehouse, Bloomingdales, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus Last Call or Saks Fifth Avenue. For fast fashion, I go to ASOS or H&M. Here’s The Recessionista’s short list of the Memorial Day sales we’ll be shopping this weekend. Continue reading

Demi Moore was sighted this week in Los Angeles looking fabulous in a chic H&M little black dress (LBD) that is also eco-friendly. Demi’s $129.00 LBD is from the H&M Conscious Collection. The dress is made of glossy satin with sections in airy crêpe chiffon. The crêpe chiffon is made from recycled polyester. The dress is embroidered at front with sequins made from recycled plastic. How ingenious is that? It’s fashionable and good for mother earth. I don’t know about you, but I love Conscious Collection. The pieces just keep getting better and better and I love recycling my old worn out clothing for discounts and H&M.

With summer and the beach season here, everyone likes to get those perfect waves. Celebrity stylist and QVC superstar Sarah Potempa has come up with an ingenious curling iron to help you perfect the loose curl look. The Beachwaver is a rotating, ceramic, and innovative curling iron that allows you to wrap, roll and heat curls in seconds. The electronic curling iron does the wrapping of the curls for you, and you release when you are ready. I got to test drive the Beachwaver curling iron at a special event with Sarah before the Oscars in Los Angeles, and I can tell you, this curling iron is simply amazing. You can use the curling iron to get an 0ld Hollywood vintage style (think marcel waves) or a beach look worthy of Elle Macpherson. Continue reading
