The striped shirt and floral skirt from the new Milly for Kohl’s Designation collection.

As a lover of fashion line Milly, I have been so excited that Milly was doing a collection for Kohl’s. With high hopes, I stopped by my local Kohl’s store tonight to check out the collection.  I wanted to love this collection and pick out some fun things for summer.  But, I have to be honest with my readers, I was a bit underwhelmed by this collection.   There are some great pieces, but there are also many pieces that I just found to be not special and not distinctive to Milly.  Some of the maxi dresses and the striped T-shirt dress could be from any Kohl’s fashion line, and they look more like Apt.9 or ELLE than Milly by Michelle Smith. The distinctively Milly pieces are the floral skirt, the floral print dresses and the full skirt with matching midriff top.  Overall, this collection is  generously sized and does not run small.  Kohl’s didn’t skip on the fabric in making this collection   Here’s my detailed look at the collection including the hits and the misses.

Shopping the Milly for Kohl’s collection in store and trying on the jumpsuit (one of my favorites)

There are some good locking pieces in the collection (see some of my top picks in the collage above.) There are also some pieces that are just average in my opinion.  They just don’t look fashionable, and for the money, if you like Milly, go shop Milly on sale at Gilt Groupe, Bloomingdales or Neiman Marcus.  I like the cute “You Me Capri” stripped T-shirt with the coordinating midi-length floral skirt.  It’s a really good looking combination of  strip contrasting with floral.  I wish I had seen the Milly Floral Scuba Dress  because that looks just like a dress priced at $395.00 from Milly’s Spring 2015 collection, but my store didn’t have it.  The pictures online look good.

The floral dresses in scuba fabric(again try those on if you can, because Scuba fabric may not breathe the way you like) and the Mommy and Me dresses are well done.  I liked the print on the Floral A-Line dress and the Fit and Flare Scuba Red and White floral dress.  I also think the two lapis blue dresses, both the fit and flare and the tie waist maxi dress are good looking and offer flattering fit.

The Milly for Kohl’s jumpsuit is comfortable and offers great fit.

I tried on the jumpsuit  in black and fell in love with it.  The fit is great and the harem pants have elastic at the ankles to add a bit of puff and flounce.   The jumpsuit is on sale for $58.00 and you can save another 20% with a Kohl’s coupon (Tulip20).  I wish I ‘d seen the jumpsuit in the Navy /White print, but the store didn’t have it.  I may order this online and use some Kohl’s cash that I have.

Misses in the Milly for Kohl’s collection.

The abstract print dresses and tops were less impressive.  For the prices of $37.00  for a top or $58.00 for a dress on sale, I don’t think they are worth the investment. They are not fashionable and they just look very average to me.   I also didn’t care for the  striped fit and flare dress.  To me, it looks like an apron and it’s not flattering.  For $63.00, this is  not worth the price.  I expect to see many of these pieces hit the clearance racks at Kohl’s in a few weeks.

I left the store without buying anything for the collection.  I was checking the prices and my budget while trying things on using the MOVEN finance app on my iPhone and decided to postpone purchasing until I pay off some more bills.   I have some Kohl’s cash that I can use May 7th and I think I will wait until then to go back and get the jumpsuit to get a better price on it.    A few pieces from this collection like the striped top and the midi skirt are going to sell quickly, but I don’t foresee website crashes, sellouts and stampedes like  we saw for Lilly for Target.  Kohl’s generally stocks enough of these collections to keep them available to consumers for awhile.  So take your time, go to the store, try things on and see what works for you.   And do check the prices against your budget.  One thing I’ve learned with Kohl’s is there is always a discount or another sale coming, so be sure and use a coupon, Kohl’s Cash (if you have it) or Kohl’s Rewards when you shop.  With Kohl’s there are a lot of things you can do to maximize your savings.
