How to Shop & Save on Roland Mouret for Banana Republic

By  |

Roland Mouret’s capsule collection for Banana Republic officially arrives in-store and online on Aug. 7th, 2014. It’s impressive that Banana is partnering with Mouret, but to be honest some of the dresses in their collections have owed much to Mouret’s designs for well over a year.    The highest priced item in the  Roland Mouret for Banana Republic collection will be a $165.00 dress, but The Recessionista has  uncovered a way to save on the collection via a pre-sale on Aug 6th the Banana Republic charge card.  Here’s the scoop.

Banana Republic cardholders will enjoy early access to the sale online.   And if you get a NEW Banana Republic charge card you’ll save 15% of the Roland Mouret collection.  So, if you’re not already a cardholder, it might be worth signing up so you can get the deal on this collaboration.  15% is a very nice discount–just remember to pay your charge card off when it’s due or you’ll end up with nasty penalties.

I haven’t seen the collection in person, only the lookbook.  However, I own several Roland Mouret dresses and these are his designs–the same styles you see in luxury boutiques and on Victoria Beckham. The same designs that sell for close to $2,000 for a dress at Neiman Marcus.  The collection offers bold colorblocking, graphic perforated details, leopard prints, Mr.Mouret’s trademark slimming cut.  The collection includes blazers, pencil skirts and sheath dresses.  There’s even a version of Mr. Mouret’s distinctive Galaxy dress.  The Roland Mouret for Banana Republic line includes petite styles and ranges in price from $49.50 (belt) – $165.00 (dress).  US Sizes range from 0 to 16.

This isn’t Mr. Mouret’s first foray into budget fashion.  Several years ago Roland Mouret did a collection with Gap.  I bought all of those dresses (some I had to buy from friends in the UK)  and they were amazing value for price.  I’m still wearing them.  A well made, well designed dress never goes out of style.

Banana Republic has been selling off pieces from the collection since the end of July, and from what I see online, it’s selling briskly.  In 2006 when Mr. Mouret came to the Gap, there was now H&M type line outside the door of the store on 5th Ave in New York.  Many Americans didn’t know who the French designer was.  But 8 years later, I think many Americans are familiar with the designer since they have seen his dresses on red carpets or worn by Lisa Vanderpump or Victoria Beckham (just to name a few.)  I’ll be shopping this collaboration early on Aug. 6th to make sure I can get my picks from the collection.
