Trip Advisor and American Express sync for savings

For the past few years,  I’ve been reviewing and sharing my reviews of hotels and restaurants on the Trip Advisor site.  Many of my Facebook friends also share their experiences on the site and I can see their reviews on the site delivered via Trip Advisor’s sync with Facebook. Travel is expensive.   Dinner or lunch out while traveling can easily add up to high costs.  With Trip Advisor you can read what other travelers thought on the hotels and restaurants before you spend your hard earned money.  Recently, Trip Advisor partnered with American Express to deliver extra AmEx card savings and deals to card members.  Here’s how it works.

Card members who connect their American Express card to their Trip Advisor account (and reviews) can realize the following savings and benefits:

1)  Statement Credit for your first review after syncing your card to your Trip Advisor account.  To receive the card credit, you must write a new review after syncing your card with your Trip Advisor account. When the connected Card Member’s first review as an “Amex Traveler” is approved and published on TripAdvisor, they will get a one-time American Express statement credit for $5 in the US and Australia and £5 in the UK (see terms).

2) Merchant Offers when you sign in to Trip Advisor.   Merchant offers range from AmeEx statement credits when you book travel via American Express Travel to restaurant savings at chains like California Pizza Kitchen and Maggianos.  The deals are displayed on uour Trip Advisor dashboard portal page, you then select the ones you want and save them to your card.   If you dine at the restaurant, you will get the deal.

Savings are delivered via an automatic statement credit issued by American Express. This new functionality on TripAdvisor is powered by the same proprietary American Express Card Sync technology that enables couponless offers on platforms like Facebook, Foursquare, Twitter and Xbox.

3) Hotspots for Card Members, by Card Members.  American Express Card Member Hotspots are exclusive lists of the top restaurants and hotels trending with Card Members in select cities.   This means you can see what’ s trending or is the most popular with other Amex Ex card members. Lists are created by leveraging aggregate American Express Spend Graph data in some of the most popular travel locations around the world. Card Members who have connected their Card with TripAdvisor can then view the lists by selecting their destination city and travel type – like “Globetrotter” or “Strictly Business” – at The Trip Advisor Amex Page.  The lists provide and excellent way to avoid the pitfalls of hotels with bad service or restaurants with lack luster food.

Look for deals from the following companies on Trip Advisor now:

  • American Express Travel (US)
  • Bam-Bou (UK)
  • California Pizza Kitchen (US)
  • D&D Restaurants (UK): all restaurants including Launceston Place, Bluebird, Skylon and Coq D’Argent
  • Maggiano’s Little Italy (US)
  • Merivale (AUS): Est, Mr Wong, Palings Kitchen & Bar, The Fish Shop, Uccello
  • The Palm (US, UK)
  • Urban Purveyor Group (AUS): Ananas Bar & Brasserie, Bavarian Bier Café, Sake Restaurant & Bar, The Cut Bar & Grill

I’ve already synced my card to my reviews ( Trip Advisor member Recessionista) and I’ve received the $5.00 American Express Statement Credit.   I’ll continue to check the deals on the site to see what works for me when I am traveling.  Right now, the most enticing offer is the $50.00 statement credit when you book at trip and spend$250.  I’ll be booking my pricey Thanksgiving and Christmas plane tickets via American Express Travel to get that deal.
