Some of my readers, as well as the New York Daily News, report that Target is giving customer gift cards instead of Phillip Lim. They reason for the gift cards? Target is unable to fulfill all the Phillip Lim for Target orders that they have received. Now, the retailer is giving out $100.00 gift cards to custoers for orders from the Phillip Lim 3.1 for Target collection that they are unable to fulfill. As many of us saw first hand, the Target website was hiccuping and sputtering last weekend under the weight of the Phillip Lim orders. I tried several times to place orders that just didn’t go through to fulfillment. In fact, I won’t be receiving my 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target Tote with Gusset in Purple because the order just never was placed, although it appeared to be.
So bottom line, the Target website buckled under the pressure of the orders and the inventory was not enough to fulfill the orders that did go through. In response, Target is giving customers whose orders didn’t go through gift cards, in excess of the item ordered! So if you ordered a $35.00 item or a $60.00 item, you will receive a $100.00 gift card instead of the item. Ka-ching, you will receive more in refund dollars than you spent if you receive this offer from Target.
Unfulfilled Phillip Lim orders turn into a $100.00 gift card from Target.
Here’s what one of my readers, Mrs. Kravetz, said about her cancelled order and the gift card note she received:
“ I was able to cram in an online order for four items very early on Sunday morning. I’ve had plenty of experience with Target.com (their online business is horribly managed), so I didn’t let myself get too excited. I check the status every couple of days. Slowly but surely, three of the four items finally showed up as “shipped.” Haven’t received any of them yet, but still. They’re on their way.
Today I get a “so sorry we cancelled part of your order” email. That’s about par for the course. It actually didn’t bother me too much, because the three items that shipped were the ones I wanted most. The one that was cancelled was the black valise. OK, went back to scrolling through my inbox and I see a second email from Target. And here’s where I was blown away.
“Please accept our sincerest apologies and a $100 eGiftCard that is redeemable at Target.com.”
Huh… whut? They’re giving me a $100 gift card for $60 bucks worth of disappointment? Color me flabbergasted. It says the gift card code will come in a separate email. At this point I’d be thrilled if they could recall the other three items and send me a $100 gift card for each. I mean, I like Phillip Lim, but I like $100 gift cards falling from the sky even more. “
Too bad Target is not going to produce anymore items to meet the orders, as they did with the Mulberry bags. However, some people will be happy with their gift cards. Others will be unhappy and curse Target because they really wanted their Phillip Lim for Target items. Hopefully, some items listed on eBay won’t sell and they will be returned, allowing everyone to have the opportunity to get Phillip Lim fashion at an affordable price. Right now, there are thousands of Phillip Lim for Target items listed on eBay, but I don’t see many of them selling. There’s a good chance stock will be coming back into Target as it did with Missoni, so stay tuned. You could maybe use that gift card to get Phillip Lim for Target items yet!
