What would you do if you received an envelope from an online retailer containing their employee’s confidential information? Well, if you’re honest like Emily Dreyfuss you contact that retailer (Banana Republic) and take to your social media channels to let them know about their error. Ms. Dreyfuss ordered a tie from Banana Republic, but received something very different when the package arrived. Here’s what she had to say via her Tumblr blog,
” Yesterday Gap Inc. sent my fiance a package that was surprisingly heavy. It was supposed to be a tie from Banana Republic that he needs for our wedding; instead it contained three packets of confidential employee information, including original W-4 tax forms, hand-written resignation letters, performance reviews, and all kinds of legal notices.”
That’s right, someone at Banana Republic, aka Gap, sent Ms. Dreyfuss the wrong package. How scary is that? If she were a thief, think of what she could have done with this information! Even scarier, her initial efforts to reach the company to let them know of their error were unsuccessful. So how did she finally make contact? My favorite social media network, Twitter! According to Ms. Dreyfuss, “After tweeting at Gap Inc., a mortified Banana Republic customer service associate named Adam Ross direct messaged me. Ross apologized for what he called a “clearly horrible mistake by our store.” ” Horrible is an understatement. Emily Dreyfuss, thank you for being so honest and sharing your experiences.
