Consumers have spoken and Target listened. Despite the lure of Neiman Marcus’ top designers like Jason Wu, Carolina Herrera, Diane Von Furstenburg and Oscar de la Renta, the Target/Neiman Marcus holiday collection has not been selling. There has been plenty of stock at every Target I have visited. The shelves have been stocked for the last three weeks. Now, with just a few days until Christmas, Target is responding to consumers with a price reduction. I just stopped by a Target and saw the entire collection on sale for 50% off of retail. It is also reduced by 50% on Target.com. I still saw more customers buying electronics, toys and games, than the Target Neiman Marcus collection, but perhaps a few fashionistas will go back to the racks for these sale prices. The collection is still on sale for full price (as of 12/21) on NeimanMarcus.com
I just shopped the collection with my Mom, and in her opinion, the works are not representative of the designers she has worn and bought at Neiman Marcus over the years. “Nothing was tastefully done, ” she said. “The items look cheap.” Even at 50% off , Mom didn’t think the items were something she would want to give as a gift. I think Mom has a point here. For myself, I did pick up the Altuzarra Cocktail Shaker for $29.99. I like all the Altuzarra items and think there are a good deal at these prices. I also like the Prabul Gurung clutch for $29.99 Read my earlier review on the collection for my opinions on all the items.
