Banana Republic has now released the full lookbook for the upcoming Anna Karenina holiday collection. The collection is inspired by the new film version starring Kiera Knightley which is now set to launch on Nov. 16th in the United States. The lookbook from this collection, designed by the film’s costume designer, Jacqueline Durran, looks a bit like Madmen meets Anna Karenina.  There are many sheath dresses accented with lace and sequins.  More befitting the styles worn by Tolstoy’s Anna are the wool cape ($198 US), a faux fur tote($79.50 US) and the faux fur Russian hat ($59.50). One piece that seems to have nothing to do with the styles of Imperial Russian (either in title or look) is the Gatsby Fringe Clutch for $198.00.  As far as I know the 1920s Gatsby style had nothing to do with Anna’s Imperial Russia style, but somehow Scott Fitzgerald’s Gatsby got thrown into this mix.

For me, the most interesting and accessible pieces in the collection are the accessories like the Ice Queen Necklace (79.50) and the Glimmer Bracelet (39.50). I agree with designer Jacqueline Durran that ” A splash of sparkle is the key to creating looks that dazzle.” With a sparkling necklace, you can make just about any dress in your closet holiday ready.  If you like this collection, here’s a little savings tip.  There will be savings of  35% off on Nov. 1st in-store and online at Banana Republic’s After 5 Event.  If you’re not a card member, you can still save 25% on Nov. 1st if you shop the collection. If you visit in-store in select New York (Rockefeller Center) and California (The Grove & Santa Monica Promenade) stores, costumes from the film will be on display as of Oct. 30th.

From Nov. 2-11th, card members can save 30% off the collection in-store and online.  Now, I’m not here to advocate getting the BR charge card.  If you want the savings, and you sign up for the card, make sure to pay it off right away. If you don’t pay your charges on time, the BR charge card carries a $25.00 penalty fee for each missed payment. Just a little tip from The Recessionista. You don’t want to eat up all your savings by paying steep finance fees later.   What do you think readers? Are you lusting for Banana’s interpretation of Imperial Russia style?
