Last week I posted on the forthcoming  Diane von Furstenberg for GapKids line due in stores on March 15th. To prime the publicity for the upcoming launch, Gap held a premiere party at the Grove in Los Angeles yesterday, March 3rd.   It seems to be de rigueur in these days of reality TV and celebrity culture to gather a group of celebrities together to launch a fashion line, even if it is one for kids.  Celebrity usually sells. Look at all the celebs at the recent Marni for H&M launch party (even Mel Gibson!) not to mention the Kardashian Kollection at Sears. I believe this line of clothes is cute enough to arouse the interest of moms looking for cute, age appropriate clothing for their children, without the celebrity endorsements. There’s even a wrap dress, the type DVF became famous for in the 1970s, scaled down to pint size.

I believe that DVF’s trademark prints will translate well to the children’s market and be a sales home run for the Gap retail chain. The girls’ dresses look absolutely charming.  The collection is full of bold colors and playful prints I can see small women trying to buy the larger sizes like Carla Bruni did with the previous Stella McCartney for GapKids collection.

Diane von Furstenberg has said she created the GapKids + DVF collection exclusively for girls ranging from newborn to age fourteen.  The collection will be in US stores and the Gap US website on March 15, 2012. Countries outside of the United States (aka the rest of the world)will be able to shop the collection in-stores and online on March 28, 2012. Prices for DVF for GapKids start at $28.00 for a pair of leggings.  Dress are priced at about $68.00 with more expensive jackets priced at $88.00 What do you think readers? Are you willing to pay a bit more for children’s clothing in order for your  child to wear fashions from the iconic designer?  I know I’ll be looking for coupon savings before I go to buy one of the dresses for my little niece.
