President Obama came out swinging during tonight’s State of the Union address and I felt like Mrs. O backed him up in power blue.  The first lady wore a brilliant sapphire sheath dress from designer Barbara Tfank. Barbara Tfank may not a name familiar to many, but here in Los Angeles she has been well known as a costume designer for films.  Now a fashion designer, Ms.Tfank’s classic dresses are sold at Barney’s New York.  Look for her designs at the upcoming Barney’s Warehouse sale.  A few of her dresses are already on sale at Barneys. There were a few of her dresses at the recent Divine by Design sale, and they were definitely First Lady worthy. You can see a few dresses by the designer for sale now on eBay.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ms. Tfank described the dress she designed for Mrs. O as a “criss cross bodice cap-sleeved slim dress in silk twill.” The dress had a pin at the bodice, but I don’t know if that was part of the dress or an brooch added by Mrs. O.  Ms.Tfank will be among the designers showing at the upcoming New York Fashion Week in mid-February. I look forward to seeing her Fall 2012 collection.
