American Express Announces the Gift Chain Program

This weekend I got a note from American Express telling me that as a cardmember I was eligble to sign-up for a new program called the “gift chain.” Since I’m using the my card a lot during this time of year for travel, family events and even a few gifts for others, I thought I’d check this out.  I’m always in  favor of any benefits I can get from Amex, especially if they are free of charge. So here’s the deal. Simply register your eligible American Express Card on the American Express website and you can receive a surprise gift each time you spend $25 or more at participating online stores (up to 10 gifts), while supplies of gifts last. Gifts range from statements credits, to ShopRunner memberships, to gift cards to some of your favorite retailers, some of which you can share with Facebook friends.

The list of merchants participating in the gift chain is pretty impressive.  Some of the merchants are American Eagle Outfitters, Bed Bath & Beyond, Blue Nile, Dell, GameStop, J.Crew, Lenovo, Neiman Marcus, Nike, REI, Rue La La, Toys“R”Us, Vente-Privee USA, Godiva, Kiehl’s,Walmart.com, YoYo.com, and Zappos.  There are also travel related benefits via Starwood Hotels and Hilton. If you try it, let me know what you think.  I just signed up, so I’ll be interested to see what kinds of gifts I might score.  The offer is good from Nov. 28 to Dec. 21 to eligible card members.
