The Tory Burch Japan Relief T-shirt: Help out with Style and a Comment

tory+japan+t The Tory Burch Japan Relief T shirt: Help out with Style and a Comment

Every time I turn on the news this week, I am haunted by the coverage of the earthquake, Tsunami (which sent a few waves over to my California coast town)  and nuclear disasters in Japan.  The damage and loss is horrific.  I’ve already made a donation to the Red Cross to help out.  I’m sure some of you have also made donations and are keeping the people of Japan in your prayers. I think all of us are heart sick for the Japanese people and looking for ways to help, just as many of us helped the people of Haiti last year.

That’s why I wanted to let you know that designer Tory Burch has partnered with online shopping club RueLaLa to design and sell a stylish T-shirt for earthquake relief.  The T-shirt is $29.00 US and 100% of the profits will benefit Japan Earthquake relief via the American Red Cross. If you are not a member of RueLaLa, click here to join using my invite.  That why you can shop the T-shirt sale on RueLaLa.  Note, in the interests of full disclosure, I do make a small referral fee when you shop on RueLaLa using my invite.  And you will also receive a referral fee when you join and refer friends who shop.  It’s a good way for everyone to save.

I have already ordered a Tee (pictured above). I love the melding of the red Japanese national flag with the red hearts on the shirt. Tory Burch first posted the graphic to the her blog with a message of support to those affected by the disaster. The positive response from fans and readers was immediate. This response is what inspired the company to turn the design into a T-shirt.  The Tory Burch boutique on RueLaLa will remain open for five days, longer than a traditional Rue La La boutique, which lasts for 48 hours. All net proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross to benefit earthquake and Pacific Tsunami relief efforts in Japan .  Props to Tory and RueLaLa for coming up with this stylish idea. RueLaLa has thousands of members, so if some of them buy a shirt, it will be a great fund raising effort.

“Our hearts are breaking for our family, friends and the millions in Japan and around the world affected by this devastating disaster,” said Tory Burch, CEO, Tory Burch LLC. “We want to do whatever we can to help this strong, resilient country.”

Of course, you don’t have to buy a T-shirt to help.  You can make a direct donation, or leave a comment here on the blog.  For every comment I receive on this post, I will give $1.00 to the American Red Cross for Earthquake relief  (up to $100.00 or 100 comments.) Sorry, I have to set a limit since I am on a low budget over here at The Recessionista.:)

What do you think of the T-shirt readers? Would you buy the shirt to help, or would you rather just make a donation to the Red Cross?

I would buy the t-shirt just to help out but a part of me wonders if I would really wear it. It's cute but not really my style.

I donated earlier, not through rue, but that shirt is pretty fun! It's a little busy for my taste, but I can totally see it working for someone else!

You are so great to donate like this! I've donated and gotten a shirt, too, and I think they are great! Everyone gets a little treat for helping out, and you can contribute without announcing to the world (across your chest, no less!) that you did. Fellow fashionistas know, but it is more cute than crowing :)

It's really cool that you will donate through the comment thing. I will donate but to the animals in japan… people seem to forget them in tragedies in general.
