Oscar Style Watch: Sales and Gowns from New York Fashion Week

By  |

Are any of you getting “Red Carpet ready” today? Most of us are getting ready to watch the Oscars on TV to see whose wearing what on the Red Carpet. But, if you’re in the market to try to shop like you were going to the Oscars, or a special party, online shopping sites Ideeli and Gilt Groupe are both offering sales on Oscar worthy gowns, jewelry and accessories.  Click on the links above to use my invites if you want to check out the sales. Look for more Oscar style gowns on eBay-even a few Elie Saabs are on sale.  So who are you looking forward to seeing on the Red Carpet today? I always love Helen Mirren in Elie Saab or Badgley Mischka with her Chopard jewels. Reese Witherspoon always looks terrific, with her mix vintage and contemporary style.  There were some stunning dresses recently presented at the Fall 2011 NYFW shows that we might see today.   Last year we saw Sarah Jessica Parker in Chanel, Sandra Bullock in Marchesa, Kate Winslet in in Yves Saint Laurent and Cameron Diaz in Oscar De La Renta.   We may not see any Dior on the Red Carpet this year due to the scandal surrounding the suspended designer John Galliano. According to The Guardian, “The French fashion house Dior has suspended its star designer, John Galliano, after he was accused of assaulting a couple and making antisemitic insults following a drinking session at a Paris bar.” Ouch.

Here’s my Oscar style wish list from New York Fashion Week with some gowns I hope we see today.

Donna Karan presented some amazing gowns at the recent fashion week.  Think Grace Kelly in pearly greys and sparkling beads.   The whole show was about refined elegance.  Perfect for some classy  Red Carpet Oscar style. Donna Karan’s show at NYFW was all about glamour with lots of pearls, fur wraps and models wearing their hair up in 1960s style buns.  Donna Karan’s collection is already on pre-order at Neiman Marcus if you want to check it out.

Carolina Herrera presented her typically luxe looking styles with a few beautiful gowns sprinkled throughout. Ms.  Herrera’s show was all about
classic beauty, gloves, some fur, and gorgeous teal and red gowns. Anne Wintour and Grace Coddington looked completely entranced with Carolina Herrera for Fall 2011, and I can’t blame them.  I loved this gown on the left with the deep teal skirt and charcoal black contrasting top. Renee Zellweger frequently wears Carolina Herrera on the Red Carpet.

Another Red Carpet favorite is Pamella Roland.  She showed some amazing gowns in her Fall 2011 collection, like this deep emerald green gown on the left.  Doesn’t this just scream Angelina Jolie? We’ve seen a few Pamella Roland gowns this week at pre-Oscar events like the Costume Designers Guild, Women in Film, and even the rain infested QVC Red Carpet Buzz Party.  Hopefully, there will be no rain today, and we’ll see some gorgeous Pamella Roland gowns.

Stay tuned for the Red Carpet later today to see who wears what.  Readers, any predictions? And do you have your Oscar voting ballot ready, if not click here to get one via Oscars.com.
