Good morning readers!  Did you all watch the Oscars?  It was an amazing night, and I have to see I found the fashions better than the show this year.  I preferred Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin to James Franco and Anne Hathaway.   Although I have to admit, Anne Hathaway had some amazing gowns, particularly the red Valentino she wore on the Red Carpet.  But there were a lot  of style winners last night. Jennifer Hudson dazzled in a tangerine Versace.  Natalie Portman looked elegantly pregnant in an eggplant off the shoulder Rodarte gown.  And new comer Mila Kunis had one of the best dresses of the night, a form fitting, well draped Elie Saab.  Trends on this year’s Red Carpet included gunmetal (think Helen Mirren in Vivienne Westwood) and dresses with lace overlays (Scarlett Johansson in Dolce and Gabbana.) In the cool light of dawn, aided by steaming cups of coffee (thank you Starbucks!) I had a look around to see what I could find for look a likes gowns.   Most of us don’t have an Oscar night occasion, but with proms, weddings and other formal events, I know some readers will want to scour the discounters for Oscar style.  A good place to start is Unique Vintage.   Their gowns are pictured above in the side by side comparisons to the stars. Their dresses are not exact matches, but they do give you a taste of Oscar style for less.   Prices range from $100.00 to $500.00 for most gowns.

Of course not all gowns can be duplicated for a lower price.  One example is Cate Blanchett’s Givenchy couture gown with all the pearls and beading.   Watching the Oscar chat of Twitter, it was clear that some viewers loved the gown, while others hated it.  Personally, I loved it.  It had a very vintage 1930s look to it that reminded me of Vionnet.  What did you think readers?
