Besides her famous husband, Linda McCartney carried many other stylish items on her arm. Case in point, the oversized handbag she was photographed carrying in London in the late 1960s. I can’t help but wonder if they bag was one of the original Ferragamo “W” bags. The bags have just been newly re-released, and were previewed at fashion’s night out in October. Take a look at one of the W bag’s by Ferragmo and see if you don’t think that it might have been similar to the bag Linda carried, maybe for all her cameras and photography gear.
How ironic that Linda, considered so “unfashionable” in her own lifetime, might have been a Ferragamo lover? As The Guardian’s Hadley Freeman noted, “now that Paul is no longer the most desirable hunk in the world, one can look back on dear Linda and see, actually, that she was rather brilliant.”
As handbag lovers like me know, the W bag is nothing new. This bag is a “reissue” by Ferragamo. The bag was named for the House’s matriarch, Mrs. Wanda Ferragamo, and originally designed in by her daughter Fiamma. I believe it was first in market in the late 1960s, and definitely in market in the early 1970s.
Maybe Stella McCartney should make a reasonably priced Linda handbag like the one her mum carried. If Linda’s bag wasn’t a Ferragamo, it was certainly fashionable and chic. And while I’m wishing…maybe the bag should be sold by Stella at Target US Interesting idea, don’t you think?
