Special Gilt Sale: Harper Collins’ Fashion Books

By  |

Gilt Groupe is having a special sale today on books about fashion from Harper Collins.  I not only love beautiful clothes, I am also intrigued by the story of the designers who conceptualize the garments, and those that wear them and add their own personal touch.  That’s why I like the Gilt selection of fashion books.  I’ve already bought the biography of Coco Chanel by Justine Picardie.   Coco was an amazing force not only as an innovator in design , but as a business woman.  She was running a successful business long before women even had the right to vote.  The book comes with a carry bag designed by her successor at the House of Chanel Karl Lagerfeld.  Check out the illustration on the tote bag by depicting a black and white sketch of Mademoiselle.

Other great fashion books include Michelle Obama’s Style and Vintage Fashion, If you love a fun read, check out Bringing Home the Birkin by Michael Tonello.  I interviewed Michael Tonello on the blog last year and enjoyed his story of traveling around Europe questing for the elusive Birkins for celebrities or to sell on eBay.  The Gilt sale is a great way to pick up his story for the discounted price of only $8.00. Another fascinating book on the sale is Hollywood designer Edith Head’s The Dress Doctor.   I just saw the play, “Conversations with Edith Head” so I’m very interested in reading Edith’s salty advice on dressing stylishly, in her own witty voice.  The books features illustrations of Head’s sketches from her films as well as her advice on how to dress for any activity from archery to house cleaning.  How good is that? 🙂 Is there really a good way to dress to clean house? I have to read this book to find out.  I’d be surprised if later in life Edith Head ever cleaned her own house.
