New Zealand designer Rebecca Taylor showed her Spring 2011 Collection on Sunday at Lincoln Center. The color palette was mostly earthy tones, nudes and pearly greys. But there were a few brighter pieces, like my favorite green dress above on the left. The collection definitely mixed the chic and the funky, the crunchy and the stylish. There were belted trenchcoats along with the designer’s signature silk printed dresses. Although most of the colors were neutrals there were a few splashes of kelly green, yellow, and orange. It was not predictable by any means.
Rebecca Taylor produces beautiful garments, but they are pricey. Look for them at discounts during sales at Bloomingdale, Gilt Groupe, Saks and sometimes, Loehmann’s. I was surprised that the colors in Rebecca’s collection were so, er , restrained. But then again, I think Betsey Johnson stole all the spring colors and rolled them up into the painting on her colorful dresses. Maybe there just wasn’t enough to go around? Most of the designers are showing neutrals. Today’s Narcisco Rodriguez show was all black, white, grey and just one splash or red. It seems to be the year when Spring has not exactly sprung onto the NYC runways.
