Some of you may have already heard this news, but just in case, English Luxury handbag designer Mulberry announced  that it is partnering with Target on an October 10 2010 introduction of a limited edition capsule handbag collection, called, mmm..can you guess?  Mulberry for Target.  From the press reports , “The Target Mulberry collaboration will be available in most stores in the United States and on Target.com from 24 December 2010. ” Target  has not yet revealed price points for the Mulberry collaboration. Drats! That is a crucial piece of budget fashion intelligence.

Mulberry is the British fashion brand that has been making gorgeous leather goods since 1971. Recently, they have expanded their offerings to Mulberry clothes.  The British brand has been synonymous with class and good taste, so it will be interesting to see how it looks rendered in “Pleather.”   While I would guess that these would be “Pleather” bags, not all the reports agree.  According to Fashionista via Racked, some of the bags may not be made of faux leather.  I have to admit, I was a big fan of the “Pleather Anya Hindmarch” bags from Target, and bought several. The same designer who designed the above pictured Alexa Mulberry bag will be working on Mulberry for Target. So this collaboration sounds promising.  It’s been hit or miss with the Target lines.  I loved Anya Hindmarch, but follow-up  Target handbag lines like the Carlos Falchi and Botkier lines were less than satisfying and I passed.  Here’s hoping Mulberry for Target is well done and well priced!

I'm hoping for real leather…most of Target's collaborations have left me cold so far, and I think it's because they've skimped on the quality. I'm looking forward to this one.

I know a lot of people prefer leather, however for those of us who get skeeved out by touching dead skin but still want to look cute–I'm hoping for the pleather versions. You are right that the Botkier and Carlos Falchi for Target were poorly made, however, there are nice vegan bags out there. Big Buddah makes amazing bags that are pleather and don't look cheap. And no one would accuse Stella McCartney's shoes or bags of looking cheapo and her stuff is all veg as well. It's all in HOW it's made, not what it's made from.

A friend of mine did some branding for Mulberry and it was his best work. Please keep the quality up!
