There are really some great picks here. Why do I love me some Vera? Because it’s stylish, beautiful and affordable. These are really her designs, not some apprentice using the Vera name. If you’ve seen her Lavender Label, then you know Simply Vera is true to her design vision and her patterns. I also have to give a big shout out on the fit. It’s well cut, not too tight and very flattering to the average woman’s curves.

Of note for Recessionistas, the Vera sale includes more than clothing, it covers her shoes, jewelry, home products and bags. I am also fond of her PJs –they are super comfy!

Another designer on sale today is Alexander McQueen’s McQ collection at Target stores all over the US. I dropped by my local Target tonight to check it out on my way home from the gym. Sadly, I have to report, I was very disappointed. The collection is super trendy and features a variety of skull and cross bone tattoo prints . I must admit that “skulls” are not my favorite fashion accessory. Target Addict has already predicted on her blog that this collection will hit the Target sale racks, and I have to agree with her “learned” opinion.
Here are a few pictures that I took at the store tonight to give you an “up close” flavor of this collection.

I went into the store to buy this Blue “sweater”, but after seeing it up close I passed. It’s not really a sweater at all. It’s a mesh top with peek-a-boo holes in it. For $44.99, I will have to pass. I have to say the color is really beautiful, but it’s not a must have.

Reminiscent of 19th century sailor wear. (Note: This is my own photo, not from Target.com)

There were several fashion faux pas in the collection, as mentioned in my previous post the black jumpsuit is a complete miss. The pink sleeveless dress with the skull accents is not something I would want to be seen in, even if Studio 54 were still open. Sorry, this Pink Tiger shift dress is not a must have. The short tuxedo jacket is cute, but again not a must have. (For the prices of this stuff, I could go back to the Loehmanns‘ sale and get something much more high-end.)

What I was impressed by at Target tonight was some of the new Merona stuff. If I was working for Target marketing, I’d be giving this stuff a big shout out and running a “vintage look” campaign around it. There are some very good looking affordable jackets and coats in this Merona collection. Here are a few pictures of those pieces.

So bottom line, I would buy the new Merona collection before I would pick up something from McQ. It’s funny that all the cute Merona stuff is in the back of the store and the disco McQ collection is right up front icon smile Simply Vera Goes on Sale at Kohls and McQ Rolls into Target.

But what do you think Recessionistas? Are some of you in love with McQ?

I was dying to get the one shoulder zigzag dress but after realizing that it was not sold at my local Target, I decided to do research. So far, based on the other blogs, it has been a big disappointment. The fabrics and style is very 80s, grunge rock. Not something I would wear in my mid-20s. The dress was okay, according to one blogger but it was not worth it for $70. I agree with your inputs on the Merona collection. Check out the one shoulder and maxi dresses at the Xhiliration line. They are pretty AND affordable!

I saw the Merona section and fell in love when I went to Target to check out McQ. It kind of reminds me of that American Living line at JCPenney’s McQ? Its someone’s style, but not mine.

Thanks for this, I enjoy hearing your perspective on Simply Vera. And those photos of the McQueen collection are frightening, sure there are better things and I’m not writing it off completely but there’s no excuse for the stuff you’ve shown here. So outdated. Who does he think we are? I think he’s grossly underestimated the American consumer. I’m kinda insulted…

    Thanks to all for commenting.
Heart–Yes, the Xhiliration line is very cute. Reminds me of TopShop Kate Moss.

Kat- Yes, Thumbs UP on Merona. I wonder why it's hidden away as poor Issac was in his final days at Tar-jay? I would move it up front and try to sell it.

BB– Thanks for dropping by. I'm so flattered you checked it out. I do love Vera. I have some great pieces from Kohl's and they are doppelgangers of the more expensive Vera Lavender Label.
RE: McQ it's just “McMiss” for me. I am not shelling out my hard earned money for it. The Blue “sweater” was not like the pictures in the photos from Target.com. You have a good point about the maker under estimating the American consumer. McQ (McMiss) is not a rival to an H&M Designer collection, that's for sure.

Did you get your Elle's cute coat yet? :) It's on sale.

Recessionista, here’s another sale tip for this weekend: Macy’s is having a “buy one, get one free” event. I think it started on Wednesday. There are $14.99, $19.99, $29.99 and $39.99 racks in the women’s department. Yesterday I got TWO items from the INC brand – a cute sweater and a pair of black work slacks – for just $14.99!!

I love the Merona line at Target! I have found lots of great stuff through that line. I happened up on a navy and pink shift dress last year that literally looks like it was ripped from a a Lily Pulitzer magazine. That McQ line looks like a joke based on what my Target carries in the Merona line.
