Change has come! The New First Lady “Elect” is a Recessionista

By  |

Its official. “Recession Chic” is moving into the White House. Our new first lady elect, Michelle Obama, offers inspiration to Recessionistas everywhere. She’s got style, she’s got grace and she’s not breaking the bank to look good. Check out the above picture of Michelle spotted wearing a great H & M dress. I saw the dress at H&M Beverly Center a couple of weeks ago. Great choice. It actually looks alot better in person and I think it was only $35.00. Mrs. Obama has also been spotted in clothes from the Gap, J Crew and others. Clearly, this is a lady who could wear high-priced clothes but chooses not to. What a great message to send right now. She is leading by example showing us its still possible to look great and save money for other things.

In the last few months, I’ve highlighted some tips for shopping & saving, but now I’ve learned about something else…shopping clubs. Say it with me….shopping……clubs. Who knew? Yes, apparently there are online clubs that you can join to receive nice discounts. I was not aware of all the choices in this area until the recent NY Times piece featuring yours truly. Yes, dear readers, I had to actually shop the old fashioned way, using ingenuity & coupons 🙂 But now, I have discovered another medium for designer deals. As with everything on The Recessionista Blog, once I find out about it, you find out about it. So here’s a nice offer for all our readers from the Gilt Groupe. The Gilt Groupe is an exclusive online shopping group featuring great designer stuff for big discounts. They are having several big sales this week. Click here to join the group as a special guest of The Recessionista Blog.
