The LA Times reports that Kate Spade will be working with the Gap this fall. The designer is doing a collaboration with GapKids. Look for Kate Spade and Jack Spade’s limited-edition collection will be available for purchase in November 2014 online and in GapKids. Kate Spade joins Stella McCartney & DVF as designers who have done children’s collections for Gap. Remember when Carla Bruni wore of the Stella McCartney for Gap kid’s jacket? I predict we might see some adults trying to squeeze into Kate Spade for Gap. The collection will be sold via Gap’s website as well as at Gap Kids bricks-and-mortar stores in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., France, Hong Kong and Japan.

Got a tee shirt with stains that wont’ come out? Or maybe a sweater with holes from moth bites? Take it to your local H&M store. From April 17 to June 20, 2014 young people can participate in “Comeback Clothes” by collecting old and worn-out clothing in their schools and communities and then dropping them off in garment recycling bins at any H&M store. All brands and all conditions will be accepted. H&M will send these clothes to a recycling facility, where they will be given a new life. Although most fabrics can be recycled, 85% of all textiles end up in landfills each year–that’s 11.1 million tons, the equivalent of over 70 billion t-shirts. That’s an astonishing amount of waste that is needless. Continue reading
It’s taken me a few days to be able to review all the pieces in the Peter Som’s collection for Kohl’s. The first Kohl’s store I went to had a small assortment of the pieces , the second store had a better variety. I’ve now seen and inspected most of the pieces, so I can give an informed opinion of this collection. First, I love the colors and the prints. The postcard print is really gorgeous and there is a maxi dress, top and skirt with this beautiful vintage looking print on them. The tops and pants with mixed tropical prints and stripes are all really good looking. Everything is well priced. My one criticism of this collection is that some of the pieces are so oversized they are not flattering. But that is not all of the collection. Here are The Recessionista’s favorites based on quality and price. Some of the dresses will make great choices for Easter or Mother’s Day. Continue reading

The latest installment of H&M’s Conscious Collection is now in stores and online. I stopped by my local H&M store yesterday to check it out. I’m so impressed by fabrication and the tangerine, red and gold hues in this collection. This collection is really gorgeous. There are a couple of upscale collection exclusives here like the $249.00 lace dress modeled by Amber (above) and the ruffled flamenco dress for $199.00 (similar to the one that Penelope Cruise wore to the Oscars Vanity Fair party) that are already selling out. Budget retailer Forever21 made the scene at this weekend’s Coachella Music Fest with an impressive show designed to show off their boho-chic festival fashions. There show labeled “Party in the Sky” took place on Saturday, April 12 featuring secret guest DJ’s Gorgon City and What So Not, as well as recording artist Azealia Banks. Azealia Banks performed unreleased tracks off of “Broke With Expensive Taste” (an aptly titled theme song for The Recessionista. Los Angeles designer Karen Kane’s new Spring 2014 collection is full of comfortable and stylish American classic. I recently got to sample some pieces from the collection (including the striped dress above) and the collection is so stylish and flattering that it’s easy to love. The designer gifted me with the best-selling contrast panel stripe dress (priced at $168) for the LuckyFabb conference. With it’s navy blue solid side panels and striped nautical theme, this dress fits like a dream. I’m not exaggerating. The dress is very slimming because of those well designed side panels, that create an optical illusion of a straight line skimming your curves and slimming the hips. This cute little red, white and blue number is “Made in America” as are all of Karen Kane’s designs. Continue reading
Last week before the LuckyFabb conference in Los Angeles, I was invited to a special beauty event. The Blow Me Away salon in West Hollywood on 3rd Street invited LuckyFabb bloggers in for a shampoo, blow-out and styling inspired by Wendy’s new salad menu. The salon gave me a fantastic blow dry, straightening my naturally curly hair. While at the salon, I got to try Wendy’s new Asian Cashew Chicken Salad. The new salad is a great healthy and affordable food choice. The fresh ingredients–including edamame- are not typical fast food fare. For those of you who know me, like most women, I am always trying to diet. The Wendy’s Asian Cashew Chicken Salad, with 380 Calories. 6.0 Fiber and 36.0 Protein, is a great option when you need to get a quick meal that has protein and is low cal. The salad is full of delicious zero calorie cucumber slices that provide a nice balance to the spicy edamame topping. Continue reading
