Ten years ago fashion designer Nicole Miller bought a budget priced collection to JCPenney called nicole. To celebrate that anniversary, JCP is releasing a limited edition collection of fashions in the nicole by Nicole Miller line on Sept. 4th. The collection is like Nicole Miller’s greatest fashion hits at budget prices. You can see and shop all the items online now at JCP and they are already on sale. The collection includes Ms. Miller’s trademark print dresses, bold colors and a very vintage looking black skirt and top with feathers. Here’s a look at some of our favorites and a bit more detail on the collection. Continue reading
Since the debacle known as Lilly Pulitzer at Target, Lilly Pulitzer decided to market to customers looking for their products at lower prices. If you’re a Lilly lover, you’ll be interested to know that there is now a section of the Lilly Pulitzer website offering dresses with the distinctive dresses for under $100.00. These aren’t Target prices, but odds are, you’ll be able to order one without the website crashing. Of course, it would be great to see Lilly for under $50.00 again , but who needs the craziness and the lines that went along with that?
Cheap and chic European Retailer Primark is set to launch their first store in the United States on Sept. 10 in Boston. Primark launched their first store in Dublin and since then, has expanded across Europe. They have gained press in the past for knocking off luxury brands and selling replicas at budget prices. They were also one of the brand who was involved in the Bangladesh garment factory fire. If you haven’t heard of them, Primark features apparel for baby and kids, women, men, home ware, accessories, beauty products and confectionery. The first US store will be at Downtown Crossing in Boston. Primark will also open a US website so consumers can shop for deals online. More stores are expected to open across the US in New York, King of Prussia, and Connecticut. The Boston store will be located where the old Filene’s basement once was. If you’re in Boston, stop by Primark and let us know what you think.
QVC is attempting to resuscitate fashion brand Halston with a new budget collection called H by Halston. Halston was a uniquely American luxury fashion line that became popular in the 1970s, popularized by stars like Elizabeth Taylor, Bianca Jagger and Liza Minnelli. Later the buzz around Halston began to fade. In what may have been an attempt to keep Halston hot, the brand went to JCPenney with a bridge collection called Halston III. Sadly, that line was a disaster, and high-end stores like Bergdorf-Goodman stopped carrying Halston after he went to JCP. Why? Because the JCP line bore little resemblance to the Halston brand and cheapened it. By the 1990s, Halston was only a perfume. In recent years, Halston’s sketches were revived and brought to life in the Halston Heritage line. Now QVC is going to try to do another Halston budget line, and hopes for better success than the poor Halston had in his lifetime with JCPenney. Dukes of Melrose star Cameron Silver will be on hand Sept. 10 on QVC to launch the H by Halston collection. Here’s what you can expect.

This is the budget fashion collaboration we never dreamed could happen—former Hermès designer Christophe Lemaire is doing a collaboration with cheap and cheerful retailer Uniqlo. Right? Who would’ve thought you would hear Hermès mentioned in the same sentence as Uniqlo. The full lookbook was released today, and frankly it screams luxury. You’d never think it was going on the racks at Uniqlo. The 30 piece collection is priced from $39.00 to $189.00 for an insane cashmere type robe coat. Look for the collection online on Oct. 2 and in select Uniqlo stores. Here’s what’s on The Recessionista’s pick list. The Cut says this is probably Uniqlo’s best collab ever. Although I loved Ines de la Fressange, this looks amazing!
