Recently Kohl’s asked me to go shopping for my husband or boyfriend for the holidays with their gift of a $250.00 gift card. While this might seem like an easy challenge, in actual fact, taking the boyfriend to Kohl’s posed some unique challenges. However, shopping with him makes for an extremely interesting shopping trip. The BF is not a shopper and most surprisingly, as much as I write about Kohl’s and enjoy shopping there, he has never set foot in the store. His idea of shopping is going twice a year to a tailor get a new suit, everything else is a mail order because he doesn’t like to shop and makes no time for it. So what does a workaholic, non- bargain hunting man like at Kohl’s? Here’s what we found at Kohl’s for holiday gifts for him.

The TOMS for Target collection (on sale Nov. 16, 2014) was previewed tonight in Los Angeles for media and bloggers. This is a cheap and cheerful holiday collection that I think Target customers will like. It’s unpretentious casual wear that is reasonably priced. Is it Target’ s best collaboration even? No. But it’s easy to love Toms mission of charitable giving and the idea that you are doing good by do good, providing nourishment, warmth and shoes to a person in need. The prices are just a bit below the prices on Tom’s website for similar items. TOMS shoes are $58.00 for adults on their website, the Target price is $10.00 less at $48.00. The material is substantially similar, although the rubber soles are the Target shoes don’t look as sturdy as their Target doppelgängers. The collection features some holiday sweaters and beanies, great looking canvas wallets & pouches, mugs, t-shirts and sweaters. The woman’s poncho sold out tonight at the preview party. Most of the TOMS for Target items were enthusiastically received by the invitees who were allowed to shop the collection in advance. Continue reading

Tonight I attended the press preview in Los Angeles for the Alexander Wang x H&M Collection. The collection goes on sale tomorrow, Nov 6, 2014. In a word, this collection is a miss. It’s dreadful. Cheap fabrication, poor fit and dreary. Most designers launch colorful holiday collections at this time of year. Remember L’Wren Scott for Banana Republic? Or H&M’s Lanvin Collection with all the beautifully colored holiday dresses. This is the opposite. This is goth athletic wear. The color palette is gray and black. There’s no sparkle or bling, just big WANG branding on the pieces. That’s right, you wear these garments, you become a walking WANG billboard. Although H&M is one of my favorite budget fashion destinations, I can’t recommend Alexander Wang x H&M to my readers or H&M shoppers. And this collection is not cheap. Dresses start at $59.00 US and there are jackets for $349.00 US. Continue reading
